Event Description: The physical and psychological benefits of meditation are well-attested and accepted today. It is widely practised as a secular technique. But the spiritual dimension of meditation is the key to its deepest meaning and its importance for the world as we struggle through crisis in search of vision. The fruits of meditation - ranging from an enhanced capacity for love to practical self-control - constitute the qualities of life which make life more than a biological or psychological event and reveal the full glory of human potential in which, in the Christian vision, we evolve from human doing to human being.
Laurence Freeman OSB is a Benedictine monk of the Congregation of Monte Oliveto. He is the Director of The World Community for Christian Meditation and teaches meditation in the Christian tradition around the world. Close to his heart is the integration of contemplation and action, the spiritual education of the young and friendship between different faiths. His books include The Selfless Self, Jesus: The Teacher Within, and First Sight: The Experience of Faith. See: www.wccm.org
